Y1 Copper Coin Collection

Trócaire collections continue throughout Lent.  Every Thursday the Y1 children collect copper coins in Martinstown.  We all love this day because we get to see the Y1 children and at the same time contribute to Trócaire.

A few quotes from Y1:

‘I got mils’ Y1 referring to the ' millions' of coins in her bucket.

‘We’re collecting for God.’

‘This is for the girl who got her home and school washed away’ - referring to the girl on the Trócaire box (Kumba, age 7, Sierra Leone).

The children's education programme also continues.  Below are examples of the pupils’ PDMU (Personal Development & Mutual Understanding) work.

In the first example we have a Y2 researching Sierra Leone. The photographs that follow are from Y5 learning about Sierra Leone through an active learning strategy called  Each One Teach One, where the children teach each other a fact that they have learnt about Sierra Leone.
