Catholic Schools' Week

21st January 2021

Share:

Catholic Schools’ Week is being celebrated this year from Sunday 24 January 2021 - Sunday 31 January 2021. This year's celebration is taking a different format, as the current COVID pandemic restricts how we usually mark it. However, as you know at Mary Queen of Peace PS, we won't let that stand in our way, as our Catholic Ethos is what makes our school a strong community.

This year's theme is Communities of Faith & Resilience, which is very relevant and important for us to model for our children at this time.

We will celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week in a number of ways:

Class Activities

The children will be directed, via their online classrooms, to complete an activity by their class teacher, linked to this year's theme.

Daily Prayer

Mrs McLoughlin (RE Co-ordinator) will be guiding the children in a short daily prayer session each morning of Catholic Schools’ Week. This will be posted by the class teacher on Seesaw or Google Classroom.

Catholic Schools’ Week Mass

Fr Conor will mark Catholic Schools’ Week at the Parish Mass on Wednesday 27 January 2021. Prayers for grandparents or any other significant relative that plays a similar role in the children’s lives will be celebrated at this Mass. Fr Conor will adhere to government guidelines by celebrating Mass outdoors.

Grandparents' Day

Usually, this event is one of the highlights of the year, as the children’s grandparents play a huge role in their lives. We feel, as a school, that the children must have an opportunity to tell their grandparents or a significant other relative who plays a similar role in their lives, how much they love them, especially when they haven't seen them as much as they would like to due to the current circumstances.

The children will receive a 'Grandparents' Day' Art Pack with all the resources needed to make a Granny and Granda, or significant other relative template. The children will write in the centre of each template what they love/d about them or love/d doing with their granny, granda or significant other relative. As always, we will remember grandparents past and present for this celebration.

The children will then hold their artwork and record a short video message to their grandparents.

Parents will email the video to the school secretary by Wednesday 10 February 2021.

The videos will be the focus of our Grandparents' Day Celebration, which will be celebrated on Friday 26 February 2021 on our website.
