Girls' Cumann na mBunscol Competition

24th November 2022

Today it was the turn of the girls to represent MQP in the Cumann na mBunscol 5 a-side indoor tournament.

Victory in their first match, against Millquarter, helped calm the nerves and the girls continued on this winning streak, beating Moneynick, St Colmcille's and Ballymacricket in their group stage. The final match of their group was tight but, in the end, Creggan just edged ahead, winning 3-2.

However, the girls had done enough and finished in the top 2 of their group. This booked them a place in the semi-final where they played St Patrick's, Rasharkin. The girls put in a great performance and came out on top. In the final they met a strong and very physical team from Mount St. Michael's, Randalstown. The girls dug deep and give it their all but in the end Mount St. Michael's proved too dominant and went on to win the tournament.

Despite not coming home with the trophy, the girls did their coach, their parents and themselves proud both in the way they played and in the way they conducted themselves on and off the court.

A big thank you to Lucy Carey, a club mentor, for coaching the girls today and to the parents who came along to support them.
