Indoor Hurling

We know the Glenravel girls are brilliant at camogie, sure the whole of Ireland knows that. We are happy to say that our boys are good hurlers too! The MQP boys finished third in this year’s Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling tournament, missing out on a place in the final with the last puck of the semi-final match.

In the group stages of the tournament, held in the Antrim Forum, the Glenravel boys started slowly and had to go on a long unbeaten run to reach the knock-out stages. First, with a draw against Moneynick PS; before victories over St. Patrick’s (Rasharkin), St. Brigid’s (Ballymena) and Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach.

In the semi-final, against St. Joseph’s (Crumlin)' the boys went one up before conceding two goals in quick succession. The MQP team then took control of the match, firing in an outstanding shot wide on the wings to draw level. As they pushed for the winner they suffered the cruellest blow, conceding a goal with just five seconds left on the stopwatch. We all like to win but how you lose is a sign of character and the boys took it on the chin. They shook hands with everyone of their opponents, a moment to be proud of.

The final was eventually won, deservedly, by Mount St. Michael’s (Randalstown).

Next up it is the girls in indoor camogie action on 19 January 2023 and they have Brídini Óga spirit in them! Good luck MQP Camogie.

Thank-you to Mrs McAlister who coached the team and to Cumann na mBunscol who organised the competition. Today was the first indoor hurling tournament in four years. It is indeed good to be back.
