Through the GDCRA and Denise McVeigh (Play Development Officer Mid and East Antrim Borough Council) our Year 6 children got the opportunity to become involved in a 'Wildlife Project' in their local area.

Within our Glenravel community we have recently had the new addition of 'The Greenway'. The Greenway will help to enhance recreational activities and promote physical activity, health and wellbeing. It also has a range of environmental benefits too. It protects the functions of the natural ecosystems, habitats and provides opportunities for protecting plants and animals.

The 'Wildlife Project' helped to educate Year 6 children about the environmental function of the Greenway. The children explored and discussed ecosystems, habitats and the local wildlife in Glenravel. Our pupils engaged in a very well delivered, interactive session with Denise McVeigh and Aidan. The children also got to build and decorate 10 structures that will be placed on the Greenway to support the local wildlife e.g. bug hotels and bird boxes. We are looking forward to seeing the completed structures on the Greenway.
